So a tubist, an accordion player, a guitarist, and a kazoo player walk into Bedford Christian Camp… Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, right? Well, this ensemble of musical talent performed live for 80 youth at the Bedford CYF Talent Show 2012. The accordion player re-wrote lyrics to the Barenaked Ladies’ If I Had 1,000,000 Dollars to fit in at camp, and of course I was the guy who got to hold down the ever-important
bass like. After a string of jokes about the horrible water pressure, Fred the Moose, the unbearable heat, and countless other things specific to Bedford—and hundreds of other camps—campers burst into applause and laughter.
Camp talent shows are the greatest. That evening at Bedford stands out as one filled with dance, song, skits, bad jokes, and raves. Talent shows offers a chance for campers and counselors to share parts of themselves seen at no other time during the camp
week. What an opportunity to share spiritual gifts—no matter how random!
Peace for the journey,
