Promoting Options to War:
Peace in Our World, Peace in Our Communities
|
|
In
addition to our educational and spiritual work, DPF engages in advocacy
for just peace in our church, our communities, our nation, and our
world. We have a long tradition of proposing resolutions for the
General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that
express the sense of the church on peace and justice issues. For
the past several years, the DPF Executive Committee and DPF members
have joined in national peace events in Washington, DC.
DPF is a sponsor of the Christian
Peace Witness for Iraq, which has staged national peace events the
last two years.

DPF
participates annually in Ecumencial
Advocacy Days, an effort by 50 Christian organizations to provide
an alternative progressive voice to the Christian Right. Advocacy
Days involves two days of education and training on peace and justice
issues followed by a day of lobbying with members of Congress.
Check back
regularly at dpfweb.org for information on more advocacy opportunities
with Disciples Peace Fellowship.
"They shall beat
their swords into
plowshares,
and their spears
into pruning hooks;
nation shall not
lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they
study war any more."
