Celebrating 70 Years of Peacebuilding
|
|
In
1935, 75 people concerned about peace met at the Convention of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in San Antonio, Texas, to form
the Disciples Peace Fellowship (DPF). For 71 years, DPF has been
keeping alive the passion for peace and justice. Disciples Peace
Fellowship is an independent organization affiliated with the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ). For 71 years, DPF has served as a
leaven within our denomination and in the larger community, pressing
for action toward the elimination of war, giving support to
conscientious objectors and fostering the use of nonviolence in
interpersonal and intergroup relations. The original covenant of DPF
includes working to abolish war and to create the conditions of peace
and justice among all people and nations. Disciples Peace Fellowship
recognizes that to work for peace, we must work for justice. That work
centers on both education and action.
Disciples Peace
Fellowship sponsors a variety of programs to promote peace with
justice.
Peace Interns
Each
summer, DPF sends Peace Interns to church camps throughout the United
States and Canada teach and model peace for our youth. The Peace
Interns are young people who are trained in peacebuilding.
News Notes
DPF
publishes a quarterly newsletter to promote DPF News Notes provides
information about issues and action updates and helps build a community
of peacemakers within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and
beyond.
General Assembly
Every
two years, DPF sponsors events for peacemakers at the General Assembly
of the Christian Church. We sponsor a pre-assembly event,
maintain a booth, and hold a breakfast, DPF also introduces resolutions
on peace and justice issues at each assembly.
Congregational
Resources
DPF
provides resources for congregations interesting in including peace and
justice issues in their worship and Christian education programs.
Disciples Peace Fellowship sponsors a variety of programs to promote
peace with justice.

Current Priorities
|
|
|
|
|
Each
year, the executive board of DPF identifies key peace and justice issue
to focus on DPF work. Our priority for this year is Promoting
Options to War: Peace in Our World, Peace in Our Communities.
This theme will inform our General
Assembly
activities, our peace intern work, and the development of
congregational resources.
